Tumwater History Beginnings

The village that would become Tumwater was founded in 1846 along this stretch of the river, where early settlers harnessed the falls to power their small mills and factories.

A series of seven interpretive historical markers installed at the park in 2009 tell the history of the river and its importance to the town. To view the markers click Historical Markers.
